Open air New year's eve celebration in Fužine

Discover the largest island in Croatia - Cres

The island of Cres is the largest island in Croatia. Cres is one of the northern island in the Kvarner Gulf and can be reached via ferry from the island Krk or from the Istrian peninsula (line Brestova-Porozina). With an area of 405.78 km2, Cres is the same size as the neighbouring island of Krk, although Krk has for many years been thought the largest of the islands. Cres and the neighbouring island of Lošinj once used to be one island, but were divided by a channel and connected with a bridge at the town of Osor. Cres's only fresh water source is the Lake Vrana. The island is a natural habitat of the griffon vulture, a very rare bird. The view from the towns of Beli or Lubenice over the sea and cliffs will leave you breathless.

The island of Lopud

The beautiful island of Lopud is situated northwest of the city Dubrovnik and is a part of the Elafiti islands. Lopud has an area of 4,63 km2, the highest point is Polacica at 216 meters. Currently Lopud has about 220 inhabitants. Lopud, the only settlement, is located in a bay, and from where there is a path that leads to the sandy Bay of Sunj on the far side of the island. You can also visit a Franciscan monastery from 1483 with a cloister and a defence tower with walls. Lopud next to Lokrum is Dubrovnik's most treasured tourist excursion point and is very convenient to visit as ferry boats have a dense schedule to Lopud leaving out of, Port of Gruz in Dubrovnik.

Hum – the smallest town in the world

Hum is a town in the central part of Istria, 7 km from Roč, 14 km southeast of Buzet on a hill above the Mirna valley. This small fortified habitation has maintained all the features of medieval urban architecture and organization. It has a population of only 17 people (2001 census), but is officially a town, and is the Guinness World Record holder for the smallest town in the world. Hum is one of the rare preserved and untouched examples of urban development inside medieval walls. Hum is also the mecca of Croatian Glagolitism where you can see the first monuments and trace the very beginnings of Croatian literacy, as well as get to know the old Croatian alphabet Glagoljica. The Aleja glagoljaša (Glagolithic Avenue) is a series of 11 monuments dedicated to the Glagolitic script, placed along the 4-mile route between Roč und Hum.

Varaždin: A postcard-perfect Baroque town

Varaždin is known as the Baroque capital of Croatia. However, this reputation may be unfounded as the Old Town tower is gothic, as well as fragments on St. Nicholas Church, while the Old Town Gallery, the Mrazović and Drašković Palaces have renaissance arches, and the Patačić Palace is rococo. There are many classicist buildings alongside modern ones. All of these give Varaždin its unique image as a harmonious melting pot of all styles, which grow on its medieval foundations. Aquarium Pula

Aquarium Pula isplaced in the Austro-Hungarian fortress Verudela, which was built in 1886 on the peninsula 3 km from the city centre of Pula. The works to transfor the fortress into the aquarium has been in progress since 2002. The installation has been set in about 60 tanks on the ground floor, the moat, and the first floor of the fortress. In an area of approx. 2000 m2 visitors can get acquainted with inhabitants of Northern and Southern Adriatic Sea, tropical marine and freshwater fish and with exemplary of European rivers and lakes.

Astronomy Village in Istria

The most charming sight is around August 12, when the sky is assaulted by prolific meteor showers associated with the comet Swift-Tuttle. On August 10 and 11, and especially August 12, the Earth moves through a cloud of dust and steam and these particles collide with the Earth's atmosphere at a speed of 200,000 kilometres per hour, boiling off and unleashing a meteor shower in the sky. This event is known among astronomers as the Perseids, but it is commonly referred to as the tears of St. Lawrence since it appears exactly on St. Lawrence's Day.

Collection of Shells in Makarska

The center of Makarska is an old town with narrow stone-paved streets, a main church square where there is a flower and fruit market, and a Franciscan monastery that houses a sea shell collection featuring a giant clam shell. The collection of shells includes some spectacular specimens from the Adriatic, as well as beautiful shells from all over the world. Zagreb ZOO

Zagreb Zoo is a 7-hectare zoo located within Maksimir Park in Zagreb, Croatia, and is one of three zoo parks in the country. Zagreb Zoo is a member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums and is a participant in the European Endangered Species Programme. The zoo is home to 2225 animals representing 275 species, including snow leopard, red panda Okapi, Addax, Scimitar Oryx, North China leopard, Common Chimpanzee, Diana Monkey, Wisent, Pygmy Hippopotamus, and Bactrian Camel.

Walk the Walls of Dubrovnik: The Walls of Dubrovnik (Croatian: Dubrovačke gradske zidine) are a series of defensive stone walls that have surrounded and protected the citizens of the afterward proclaimed maritime city-state of Dubrovnik (Ragusa), situated in southern Croatia, since the city's founding prior to the 7th century as a Byzantium castrum on a rocky island named Laus (Ragusia or Lave).[Note 1][1] With numerous additions and modifications throughout their history, they have been considered to be amongst the great fortification systems of the Middle Ages, as they were never breached by a hostile army during this time period.[2] In 1979, the old city of Dubrovnik, which includes a substantial portion of the old walls of Dubrovnik, joined the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.

2. Scuba diving on the Island of Mljet: The waters around Mljet are a treasure trove for scuba divers. A recent excavation around a 10th-century shipwreck revealed several hundred artifacts including bottles, amphorae and decorated glass.

Aliens Find Pag Attractive?

In west Croatia, Europe, you can find a long peninsula called Pag. East of the town of Novalja, up in the rocky hills, you can find the Pag Triangle. An ancient UFO imprint on the ground. An imprint of such dimensions, that the stones and rocks have melted under extreme heat. The stones and rocks that were touched by the heat have melted together and each of them have three colors. Due to my job (I cannot reveal the organization I'm working for, sorry), I've been sent on a field research. Since this is not considered as a sensitive material and there are no discussions about the Pag Triangle on ATS whatsoever, I would like to bring some light upon this subject. The Pag Triangle was discovered in 1999 by a Croatian aircraft passing over the peninsula. In 1999, the position of Pag Triangle was pointing towards Sirius star, linking Orion star as well. The myth tells of a trangle-shaped craft that came from the stars thousands of years ago and its passengers of that met the inhabitants of Pag. It is rumored that the locals of Pag often see triangle shaped UFOs and stange lights in the sky - even nowadays. It is also rumored that many UFO cults have visited the location and use it to worship/contact the extraterrestrials. The Croatian researcher and author of the "Pag Venture Star" book Stjepan Zvonaric studied the phenomenon and even organized visits to Pag Triangle and evening seasonal exhibition with additional description and explanation. Stjepan Zvonaric planned to open a "UFO Park" for the tourists, but the project was shut down in 2006. After 2006, no new materials or brochures on the subject were to be found.
