Unknown festival in Rovinj, Croatia

Unknown is a week-long music and arts festival created by Sound Channel and a team of their artistic friends. Located just minutes from the stunning town of Rovinj, Unknown is well served by a number of nearby airports. You will enjoy live performances and DJ sets from Wild Beasts, Chvrches, Mount Kimbie, Dixon, Tale of Us, Jackmaster and many more. The decor had all the hallmarks of a UK festival, with chill-out areas decked with hammocks and hippy-esque furnishings, not to mention a troupe dressed in animal costumes tasked with reading Rudyard Kipling to whoever would listen. In terms of the music, disco and house were particularly well-represented, but most of the artists avoided toeing any particular line. The innovative event combines the creative juices of these key forward thinkers to create a hedonistic and immersive paradise.

The Feast of St. Blasius | Dubrovnik

For over a thousand years now the people of Dubrovnik have been celebrating the Feast of St. Blasius. It is the day on which the doors of the City are thrown wide open. In honour of St. Blasius, and the Day of the City of Dubrovnik, numerous cultural, entertainment, musical and sporting events are held. The city is specially decorated and lit, and the procession of inhabitants from around the city attracts much attention with the rich original folk costumes. Following the flight of white doves our eyes reach the heavens, reminding us of the priceless values of freedom. On that day the mass is celebrated in the church of St. Blasius, from which a festive procession starts its passage through the streets of the old city. The festivity of the Dubrovnik patron, a day which reminds us that the saint protecting Dubrovnik in the palm of his hand eternally watches over its freedom, was placed on the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2009.

A cappella singing (Dalmatinske klape)

Singing in the group, or on Dalmatian language in the "Klapa", which mean company or group is most common form of singing in Dalmatia. Singing groups are usually composed of five to eight members, and songs are performed without instrumental background (a cappella). This way of singing is recognizable by the polyphony, harmonic structure and beautiful motion of the melodic line, which is always followed by another voice. Festival of the Dalmatian a cappella singing groups, or on Croatian "Festival Dalmatinskih Klapa" was founded in 1966. A group of enthusiasts from Omis is trying to preserve this type of singing from extinction and founded the Festival. Since then more than 200 groups from across the Croatia (and wider) has performed on the Festival. But over time in the work of the Festival lots experts, musicologists and composers have joined. Now the Festival is the main cultural event in Omis, and main event of Dalmatian traditional singing. Each year jury and audience (only those who attend the event, and not those who are watching on TV) choose the best Dalmatian a cappella singing group. In 2013th Festival was added to UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists.
