The carnival Đakovački bušari

At the end of January/beginning of February, when winter's bitter cold grips our towns and villages, everybody from the old ones to the young ones know that on the snowy streets of Đakovo the time has come... It's obligatory to put on your masks and be as crazy and imaginative as possible. The carnival frenzy is about to start! All the problems and worries should be left behind... until Ash Wednesday, just like it says in a song: "Carnival is for young men to be joyous and Lent for old women to be religious." The carnival "Đakovački bušari" is, according to the number of its participants and visitors, the largest carnival in Eastern Croatia and it is also a member of the Croatian association of carnival towns.
